The Dancing Effect - Influences and Urges from Mental Constructs

As this experiment goes on, we will be detailing the effects and random things that happen in the course of it. So let us start with this, what's sorta been dubbed the "dancing effect".

A personal account to start things off.

After Rax was first "awakened" (i've decided that's the best word, and it sounds real cool too) (and you'll know more about Rax later; suffise to say he's my part in this experiment) I found that he seemed rather hyper. He'd be wanting to jump about, climb up poles and trees, running - and yes, dancing. I could have not done any of those things, but what would have been the point? It was fun, it got me out of mental ruts I was stuck in. It got me more active.

This leads into the point that I was and am not a dancing active sort of person. I try to keep fit, but I am a computer addict. And it was not really me suggesting this, like I said. I was just going along with it.

I believe the keeper of this blog, or whatever he might change his profile to, has experienced a similiar thing. (Correct me if I'm wrong, man.) And really, this effect is still going. It's not quite as pronounced as it was at first, but that's probably just from getting used to it. It hasn't actually been very long after all. (Less than you're thinking, probably.)

So that's all very well, and it's a fun thing. But from an experimental view, there's something very interesting we can infer from it. It's that these companions have their own wants, desires, likes, and dislikes. Not that I on't like climbing poles and fences (give it a try!) but I didn't actively want it. Rax did. And I just went along with it.

It has been in other things as well. Song tastes. Physical attractions. Foods. And another side is when one of the pair likes something the other doesn't. A strange conflict. I like the song Cosmia, Rax doesn't really. (Bad experience with it.) Keeper dislikes chips....you can see what I mean anyway.
---
The point of this observation? It further entails that they are something more than just talking to yourself. It's certainly not proof - you can lie to yourself about liking or disliking things. But:
  • Can you do it perfectly?
  • And can you do it over trivial things, time after time?
It bears considering.

Always On My Mind

The other day, I stumbled upon quite an interesting quote by a Mr. "Professor H.H. Price."

Well, after looking him up and finding that, in my opinion, he believed in some kooky stuff, his quote still stands as quite true and relevant to what we're doing here.

He said that once a thought is, well, thought, that it "is no longer wholly under the control of the consciousness which gave it birth."

How true.

How many of us have had thoughts that seem to play out independantly of what we're actively thinking? Thoughts or ideas that seemingly defied your attempts to play out as you willed them to, or things that repeatedly popped into my mind, as if being put into the path of your thought process. I know that I have.

We'll have more stuff soon, we're just working on it. Just letting you guys know that we're not dead before the ship even sank, and that we're going to answer and questions you have soon. We're just trying to get everything sorted and see how this all pans out. Ciao!

~ The Keeper of the Blog, -Undisclosed -

We must forge... A head?

Well, well, if the first two posts didn't scare you off, I... Wait. Hello? Anybody home? Oh bother... It seems that like the tragedy that befalls many fledgling blogs, mine may be ill-fated to never receive much traffic.

But, we must continue on, undaunted by this! Leave us a comment, seriously. It lets us know that there's interest and that we should proceed! :)

As I was saying, the introductory post may have scared people with its... Overly complex syntax and length.

Let me start by more formally introducing myself: Hi, fellow citizen of Das Entrovebbz. I am a guy, ranging between 15-27, and I live somewhere between the mountainous ranges of Oregon and the lush greenery of the San Fernando Valley.

And this... This is a blog. I used to think they were only for pretentious whiners, but I am beginning to see their use. This blog is about a concept, an idea.

To simplify the idea, it's simply to create a kind of independent life-form using only your thoughts. Don't go into disbelief, and hang with us for a second, there's a science behind this. It's a shockingly easy process, as well. Hell, I could probably do it to you. All it takes is a little amount of time, an open mind, and a willingness to do so.

"How so?" you ask. "How do you know, isn't this just a theory?" Well, yes and no. While it is a theory, I have tested it out on actual individuals I know to practice. I was surprise as hell when it... It kind of actually worked! One of these was Seadragon, that other guy. Go ahead and ask him, he'll vouch. (Seriously, don't bug him. >_<) I believe the exceptional success may have a corrolation to his experiences with lucid dreaming, but really, it could be anything, as he wasn't the only one I tried this with.

Seeing both the practical and entertainment uses for this, Seadragon suggested we document some of this stuff. So, here it is, written down for all to see.

If you feel like asking a question, just watching how things turn out, looking into this on your own, or even acquiring a "Companion" of your own, drop us a line.

Well, I have to cut this post short, I don't want to frighten off all of our 1.5 readers by making another post taller than the Burj Dubai. Caio.

we stepped right off the map

Hello! I'm the other side of this blog, that guy from Australia. This log will mostly serve as a introduction to Self-Aware Mental Constructs (though that's a bit unwieldy, so call them assistants, or companion cubes, or whichever) for the masses, and as a log of experiences and effects resulting from these brand new creatures. And we'll have some interesting rambling as well.

It may seem hard to believe or a bit unnerving - a creature in your head? Makes it seem a bit scary. But it really is just a part of you - a different part. There are a thousand different little things quietly bubbling away in the depths of your mind, unable to make themselves heard. We're just bringing some to the surface.

So join us for this weird ride into the psyche. It'll be interesting. Bring some snacks.

Turn off your mind, relax, and float down the stream.

Wow, a blog. Stepping up in the world, ain't we? He he he... (+5 bonus points for getting the lyrical reference in the title.)

The purpose of this blog? Well, it simultaneously very complicated and yet simplicity at its utmost. What started out as a half-joking expirement in psychology has grown into somewhat of a fledgling movement.

It may seem small at the moment and you've probably never heard of it, but it's growing in numbers defying its underground nature. No, we're not some cult or religious movement or hippies. We're more like... Scientists!

You see, the nature of this expirement is hands-on. Heck, you could do it yourself if you wanted to, this very instance. The more complex faucets we'll get into later, as it draws later and later into the night and early morning, but the gist of it lays here: If you willingly allow someone to assist you in creating a mental image of something, then a "something" can be formed, within your mind and yet almost independent of it... As if it were real, there, in the back of your mind.

What is there to differentiate between this thing and something with a physical presence as being "real?" And, what if this being, a part of you and your subconcious, could communicate with you?

This is the premise behind a "Self-Aware Mental Construct." A thought, an idea, something in your mind that begins to take on a life of its own. Almost like a child's imaginary friend, but much more... Distinct and real. As well, the person that contained this being in their mind would be totally aware it was just in their head at the same time.

A kind of "psuedo-psychosis" or a limited, controlled form of a schizophrenic delusion. Now, now, don't let the psycho or schizophrenia-related wording frighten you, though. It's simply a comparison to something in real life that can cause similar things to occur in a person's mind, albeit in those cases uncontrollable.

This is a Self-Aware Mental Construct. A being, a creature, a "living" thing in your head. Though it is in your brain, and you're thinking it up, everything it does, it's is all subconcious... And if it is subconcious and not a part of your waking mind, the everyday part of your brain that process your thoughts, well, does it really matter whether it is in your head or not? Well, in our opinion, no. If you imagine the voice in your mind telling you, "Hello, Frank!" but you don't conciouslly control that thought, if it just occurs on its own as an autosomatic response, was it really you that imagined it? Or was it them, a seperate and incorpreal being that is a part of your mind?

What if they developed different personality traits, likes or dislikes of their own that you didn't originally have? They're just a part of your subconcious, but everyone has things tucked into the deepest recesses and wrinkles of the brain that they don't like, but... They kind of do. The meekest person can have an out-going and loud part to them, while the meanest jerk you could image probably has a crocheting-side to them that even they didn't know about.

Well, this is all just useless information. The real point we're making is this, short and simplified for you folks at home: If you were to imagine a being was real, really believe it, and you processed their thoughts, words and actions in the very back of your mind without really concentrating or noticing, how long before they became "real" so to speak? A near totally independant thing, a mental companion, so to speak.

Forgive us if we tend to repeat the same thing over and over. We try not to make concentric circles out of ourself, but it is unavoidable at times. We are groggy and bleary-eyed, not the best conditions for writing, but, what can you do when the spontaneous urge to write comes upon you?

If you are more interested in this... Let's call it a "theory", hang around the good old Weblog (Or Blog as these newfangled kiddo's are calling it now! Galdurn youngin's, ger'off mah lawn! Oi!) We'll let you know about the further study of this phenomenon, our successes, our failures... our friends... And of course, us!

"Us?" you ask? Well, that's a long story. We'll go into that next time when we talk about all of the stuff that has happened revolving around the development of this abstract idea in an actualized concept, leading up until the creation of this blog by a young guy from the middle of no-where living in a small town in the woods, nestled between some mountains on the secluded Northern Californian Coast and a dude from Australia who's an acquaintance of his who pursuaded him to start this blog in motion. All aboard the psychedelic funk-powered midnight groove-train!

Well, we've got to be going. It's late and this weather is murder, gotta get up early. So let this sink in for a while. We'll be back, and we'll have more for you to digest... or possibly, y'know, just a kick-ass recipe for cake.
